EFL Transfer Bible - 206 Transfers Covered
Learn about EVERY EFL SIGNING as NTT20.COM covers the EFL Transfer Window in full.
Welcome to the first Summer Transfer Bulletin…
July is Transfer Month over here at NTT20.COM. And we will not stop until the stoffice window slams shut on the creaking bones of our worn-out fingers at 11pm on deadline day, Friday 30 August 2024.
Between now and then, we will cover EVERY SINGLE SIGNING. We’ll look at the business clubs are doing and reflect on how that might shape up for the season ahead. The Summer Transfer Bulletin might flex to the news of the day, but in principle, it is going to work like this:
Mondays and Thursdays — publishing twice a week, direct to your inbox
Movers — up top, we’re covering EVERY done deal across the EFL
Mailbag — down the bottom, we’re answering your burning transfer questions
This will be an unprecedented and unrivalled EFL transfer offering.
Not just an accurate record of every transfer, arranged by division and club (although that alone is hard to find!), but also one containing player information and team context.
We hope the quality of this offer may persuade you to become a paid subscriber of NTT20.COM. With a paid subscription model (as opposed to a pop-up ad revenue model), we are able to focus entirely on the quality of the content. This is highly rewarding, but it’s also time-consuming and it requires a team of experts. We pay all of our contributors, which should go without saying, but in this industry we have learned that it’s certainly not always the case.
So, in order for us to operate and grow, we need paid subscribers. The more paid subscribers, the better the quality of NTT20.COM — a lovely, virtuous cycle! And it costs less than two quid a week.
OK, that’s enough of that. Here’s every completed transfer so far this summer…
Ali Maxwell and Craig Bradley
Championship
Fally Mayulu (ST) - [Rapid Vienna - Bristol City] - Undisclosed
I will never not be excited about a 21 year-old, 6'4 striker with pace and the ability to shoot powerfully with both feet (Mayulu's goal breakdown is 11 right foot, 10 left foot, 5 head). Fully expecting a period of adaptation for a player that likely still has plenty to learn, but if you can't get excited about this signing then you can't be my friend.
Shurandy Sambo (RB) - [PSV - Burnley] - Free
A deal lined up since January. Sambo never really broke through at PSV, despite a fine loan at Sparta Rotterdam and forever feeling on the cusp. A bit of a project but a four-year deal suggests The Clarets are happy to bide their time with the 22-year-old.
Jack Rudoni (CM) - [Huddersfield - Coventry] - Undisclosed
Energetic, all-action box-to-box midfielder with a goal threat – this feels a good fit for all parties. Rudoni’s development over four seasons has been impressive. AFC Wimbledon receive a sizeable windfall as part of the deal.
Luis Binks (CB) - [Bologna - Coventry] - Undisclosed
Binks impressed enough in 15 league starts on loan for Coventry to secure him permanently. The former Spurs academy talent is well travelled at 22, having played for Montreal Impact, Bologna and Como 1907.
Raphael Borges Rodrigues (LW) - [Macarthur - Coventry] - Undisclosed
The 20-year-old Brazilian-Australian-Dutch dribbly winger, who had a breakout season in the A-League, will be given plenty of time and patience to settle.
The first Summer Transfer Bulletin is free for all subscribers, but in future there will be the odd paywall. Sign up to NTT20.COM now to get full access to all our EFL Transfer Window, throw mailbag questions our way and unlock the entire back catalogue including June’s 21 Under 21 series.
Ben Osborn (LWB/CM) - [Sheffield United - Derby] - Free
Derby-born player who once scored a late winner for Nottingham Forest at Pride Park! Osborn has largely been a squad player for five seasons at Sheff Utd, but will offer versatility, technical tidiness and left-footed balance to a County side looking for all of those things.
Ryan Giles (LB) - [Luton - Hull] - Undisclosed
The attacking full-back with deadly delivery has his temporary deal made permanent for a reported £4m – reportedly an obligation following a loan spell which didn’t set the world alight. Watch this space: Middlesbrough are said to be sniffing around, with a suggestion that Hull may be willing to sell immediately if the price is right.
Aidan Morris (CM) - [Columbus Crew - Middlesbrough] - Undisclosed
Adored in Columbus where he has twice won the MLS Cup, Morris makes the move across the Atlantic. Happy in a double or single pivot, he plays the game with intelligence and composure. A ‘get it and give it’ type but always with purpose, he likes a tackle, too.
Luke Ayling (RB) - [Leeds - Middlesbrough] - Free
Performed well on loan in 23/24, with 8 assists in 19 games. A popular dressing-room personality and leader.
Delano Burgzorg (W/ST) - [Mainz - Middlesbrough] - Undisclosed
The mercurial attacker scored 9 goals in 2,200 minutes for relegated Huddersfield last season. Tall, skilful… inconsistent.
José Córdoba (CB) - [Levski Sofia - Norwich] - Undisclosed
Sporting Director Ben Knapper’s first permanent transfer at Norwich City. Twenty First Group’s worldwide Player Model rates the Panama international at a similar quality to Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
Peter Kioso (RB) - [Rotherham - Oxford] - Undisclosed
Kioso’s eighth EFL club in a stop-start career. Enjoyed a fabulous loan spell at Peterborough before being recalled. A full-back/wing-back who gets up and down well and is tough to beat 1v1.
Jamie Cumming (GK) - [Chelsea - Oxford] - Undisclosed
Last season’s promotion-winning loanee had big gloves to fill when replacing James Beadle, but improved over time and finished the season in strong form. At 24, he’s still young for a keeper but has 150 league apps under his belt – plenty of upside if he can be an able Championship #1 and keep improving.
Will Vaulks (CM) - [Sheffield Wednesday - Oxford] - Free
Sheff Wed’s 23/24 Player of the Year moves down south to add Championship experience to Oxford’s ranks — not to mention impeccable community work, having won the EFL Player in the Community Award three times.
Jacob Knightbridge (GK) - [West Ham - Oxford] - Free
West Ham’s starting goalkeeper in PL2 last season. Signed for potential; possible loan candidate for League Two or the National League.
Nathanael Ogbeta (LB/LWB) - [Swansea - Plymouth] - Free
Attacking wing-back with silky skills and a good cross, and a point to prove at this level after a torrid few years as a Swansea player. Selected for NTT20’s EFL 21 Under 21 in 2022.
Josh Murphy (W) - [Oxford - Portsmouth] - Free
A sore one for OUFC and their fans. One of the best attacking players in League One from January onwards, after many years struggling for fitness and form, Murphy was last seen scoring a brace at Wembley in the Play-Off Final. Pompey’s proffered length of contract (3+1) has likely secured his services. If Murphy stays at 2024 levels, he’ll make a huge difference.
Jordan Archer (GK) - [Free Agent (QPR) - Portsmouth] - Free
A back-up keeper at his last four clubs, Archer will keep Will Norris honest.
Jordan Williams (RB/RWB/RCB) - [Barnsley - Portsmouth] - Free
Versatile right-sided defender who captained Barnsley last season. Put up good numbers at RWB in 22/23, then played last season at RCB.
Paul Nardi (GK) - [Gent - QPR] - Free
A 30-year-old French keeper who has spent the last four seasons in the Belgian and French top flights, and was Gent’s #1 before breaking his leg in October 2023 (he had recovered by the season’s end). Gent fans are upset he’s leaving and Lorient fans are upset he isn’t going back there — a good sign! Straight in as No.1 to replace the departing Asmir Begovic?
Max Lowe (LB/LWB) - [Sheffield United - Sheffield Wednesday] - Free
The first Wednesday signing direct from Sheff Utd since 1951, and only the fourth in the clubs’ joint history. A few injury niggles, but two promotions in his previous two Championship campaigns (Blades/Forest).
Jamal Lowe (FWD) [Bournemouth - Sheffield Wednesday] - Free
Wednesday are taking the Lil Jon approach - Get Lowe, get Lowe (get Lowe), get Lowe (get Lowe), get Lowe (get Lowe). This is a nice addition for Wednesday's attack, Lowe can play as a wide forward or in a front two, offers a solid level of goal threat and will be able to do the out of possession work that Danny Röhl wants.
Ben Hamer (GK) - [Watford - Sheffield Wednesday] - Free
The veteran stopper and archetypal ‘second-choice keeper’ actually had a 19-game stint in goal for Watford last season. Hasn’t played more than 40 league matches in a season since 2012/13, mind.
Yan Valery (RB) - [Angers - Sheffield Wednesday] - Undisclosed
Former Saints right-back joins Wednesday to challenge Pol Valentin for RB/RWB position after two solid years with Angers.
Svante Ingelsson (CM) - [Hansa Rostock - Sheffield Wednesday] - Free
Capped at all youth age groups for Sweden; now 26 with bags of experience in the Allsvenskan, Serie B and 2.Bundesliga. Positionally flexible, able to play as an 8, a 10 or out wide, Ingelsson is a powerful, vertical runner, happy on the half-turn, and direct in nature. Feels like a nice fit.
Eric Bocat (LB) - [Sint-Truiden - Stoke] - Undisclosed
French/Senegalese wing-back who keeps width and plays with an attacking nature. Early signs that Schumacher’s Stoke squad is going to look balanced and capable of different formations.
Ben Gibson (CB) - [Norwich - Stoke] - Free
The solid, experienced centre-back inks a three-year deal that’ll take him past his 34th birthday.
Viktor Johansson (GK) - [Rotherham - Stoke] - Undisclosed
Standout Championship shot-stopper for two years joins club desperate for a dependable keeper.
Simon Moore (GK) - [Coventry - Sunderland] - Free
Cov’s starting keeper in 2021/22 (including scoring a goal) became Cov’s back-up keeper in 2022/23, and will be the same at Sunderland.
Ousmane Diakité (CM) - [TSV Hartberg - West Bromwich Albion] - Free
Arrived into Europe via Red Bull’s African scouting network. Once highly touted, his career has been a mixture of loans and injuries, but looked to be getting back on track at Hartberg over the last 18 months. This deal has the potential to be a steal!
League One
Conor Hourihane (CM) - [Derby - Barnsley] - Free
Former Tykes captain and fan favourite rejoins in a player-coach capacity. Serious about a move into coaching and management, but still – at 33 – with plenty to offer on the pitch, having captained Derby to promotion last season.
Ryan Allsop (GK) - [Hull - Birmingham] - Free
Boyhood Blues fan finally joins the club aged 32, after 350-plus apps elsewhere. Hull’s #1 for last season’s Championship promotion push, liked by Liam Rosenior for his passing.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell (GK) - (Burnley - Birmingham) - Undisclosed
Joins after a season in Arhus, Denmark. BPF will likely be back-up to Ryan Allsop, which feels like a strong goalkeeping battalion for League One.
Zac Ashworth (LB) - [West Bromwich Albion - Blackpool] - Undisclosed
Did well in competition with Nathanael Ogbeta when on loan at Bolton last season. Moves to Blackpool in a permanent deal and faces tough competition for a starting berth again.
Hayden Coulson (LB) - [Middlesbrough - Blackpool] - Undisclosed
Joins following a loan last season. Looks like a strong heat in the race to be Blackpool’s starting left-sided wing-back.
Jordan Rhodes (ST) - [Huddersfield - Blackpool] - Free
Loan made permanent. 15 goals in 19 starts before Christmas, before injury and loss of rhythm. One of the great EFL finishers of the modern era.
Ashley Fletcher (ST) - [Watford - Blackpool] - Free
It’s been a tough few years for Fletcher. He has scored four league goals in the last four seasons. Can he nail down a home at Blackpool, playing and scoring consistently? The jury is out.
Klaidi Lolos (AM) - [Crawley - Bolton] - Undisclosed
Just one of Crawley’s many 2023/24 recruitment highlights, Lolos moves on to Bolton after a box-office season in League Two. Adds some unpredictability to Ian Evatt’s attack.
Chris Forino (CB) - [Wycombe - Bolton] - Free
Having given up a place at university in order to go pro with Wycombe in 2021, this is a new chapter in a great story. Physical, aerially-dominant defender without a track record of ball-playing ability.
Luke Southwood (GK) - [Cheltenham - Bolton] - Free
Signed to battle Nathan Baxter for the #1 spot, Southwood started every game for Cheltenham over the last two seasons.
Ruel Sotiriou (FW) - [Leyton Orient - Bristol Rovers] - Undisclosed
Took the step up from League Two to League One well with Orient, offering goal threat from any attacking position. Gas agree an undisclosed fee for the 23-year-old to avoid going down the compensation route. A shrewd pick-up all round.
Bryant Bilongo (LB) - [Middlesbrough - Bristol Rovers] - Undisclosed
Bilongo, a 22-year-old left-back, followed the Isaiah Jones route – London non-league scene to Teesside – but never broke into the first team. His 13 games on loan at National League Ebbsfleet is the highest senior level at which he has played, so far.
Clinton Mola (LB) - [Reading - Bristol Rovers] - Free
LB was a big need for Rovers, and they’ve added two young LBs to battle with each other. Mola’s career path of Chelsea-Stuttgart-Blackburn(loan)-Reading feels chaotic; a three-year deal gives him a chance at stability.
Joel Senior (RB) - [Morecambe - Bristol Rovers] - Free
I was impressed by Senior each time I saw him play last season: he added speed, energy and impetus to Morecambe’s attack from full-back. Didn’t stand out defensively, and will need to stand up to a greater challenge on that front in League One.
Isaac Hutchinson (CM) - [Walsall - Bristol Rovers] - Undisclosed
Under the radar, Hutchinson had a stunning 2023/24 campaign with Walsall that ended with a double double: 12 goals and 11 assists. This is a top signing!
Dan Ellison (CB) - [Chippenham - Bristol Rovers] - Undisclosed
Just 19, coming to prominence in non-league circles last season. Left-footed centre-back who is a threat from set pieces. Gas stole a march on others by getting him in early and offering him a pathway to the first team.
Taylor Moore (CB) - [Valenciennes - Bristol Rovers] - Free
I'm a fan of Taylor Moore seemingly only wanting to play in France or Bristol. The former City player can play all across the back line.
Elliot Watt (CM) - [Salford - Burton] - Free
After 179 games spraying passes in League Two, it's time for Watt to step up. Some League One teams will baulk at a perceived lack of physicality; others will swoon at his passing range and technique.
Geraldo Bajrami (CB) - [Notts County - Burton] - Free
A CB/DM with confidence on the ball... who missed the whole of last season through injury and has never played regularly above National League level. According to an interview with The Athletic, Bajrami puts garlic in his sock during games “to keep away the evil eye and those wishing bad things on me… It’s an Albanian thing”. Former Birmingham academy team-mate Jude Bellingham tweeted his well-wishes after the move was confirmed.
Jason Sraha (CB) - [Shrewsbury - Burton] - Undisclosed
A rangy, left-footed centre-back educated at Arsenal, Sraha only made 13 starts for Shrewsbury, so Burton are betting on profile and potential here.
Alex Bannon (CB) - [Queens Park - Burton] - Undisclosed
The most exciting of Burton’s defensive arrivals: a 20-year-old, tall, two-footed, composed, ball-spraying centre-back. Watching this one with interest – plenty of upside.
Udoka Godwin-Malife (CB/RB) - [Swindon - Burton] - Undisclosed
Burton are doing serious renovation work to their defence. A composed passer, Godwin-Malife covers both CB and RB. He was relegated with Forest Green the only previous time he played at this level, so arrives with a point to prove.
Tomas Kalinauskas (LW) - [FC Den Bosch - Burton] - Free
A three-year contract is hard to square with Kalinauskas’ career so far, off the back of a season as a fringe player for Den Bosch in the Dutch second tier, and having barely featured for Barnsley, AFC Wimbledon nor various non-league clubs previously. Once played 90 minutes in a 13-0 defeat to PEC Zwolle.
Danilo Orsi (ST) - [Crawley - Burton] - Undisclosed
Scorer of the opening goal in last season’s League Two playoff final. Crawley cashing in on a 28-year-old forward after their best ever season may seem like good business… if they weren’t selling everybody else from their promotion-winning team as well.
Ben Whitfield (W) - [Barrow - Burton] - Free
Creative player who did a job up front for Barrow but prefers to play wide. Not a pacy 1v1 specialist, but one with an eye for a pass or a cross and the technique to deliver.
Rumarn Burrell (ST) - [Cove Rangers - Burton] - Free
Brummie boy Burrell has been scoring goals regularly in Scottish League One for a couple of years. Burton take a chance to see if that form translates south of the border.
Charlie Webster (CM) - [Chelsea - Burton] - Undisclosed
Mark Robinson’s Chelsea connection comes in handy straightaway. Webster has represented England at every age level from under-15 to under-20, including as captain of the Under-18s. A midfield player, he will have to ‘earn the right to play’ but could feasibly be a signing with huge potential.
Julian Larsson (FW) - [Nottingham Forest - Burton] - Undisclosed
The 11th Burton Albion addition is a versatile attacking player who can play in all positions across the front line. The 23-year-old struggled to impact games on loan at Morecambe last season, however.
James Gibbons (RB) - [Bristol Rovers - Cambridge] - Free
A loan turned permanent. The versatile defender played at right-back, left-back and centre-back during last season’s try-before-you-buy spell.
Kell Watts (CB) - [Newcastle - Cambridge] - Free
Aged 24, and following six loan spells, Kell Watts leaves Newcastle and lands at Cambridge United. Injuries and other circumstances limited him to only 14 starts across two seasons with Wigan and Peterborough; he needs a run of games in order to show his level.
Alex Mitchell (CB) - [Millwall - Charlton] - Undisclosed
Only 22 but with plenty of match-playing experience on loan, in League Two with Leyton Orient, the Scottish top flight with St. Johnstone, and at this level with Lincoln. A nice pick-up for the Addicks.
Will Mannion (GK) - [Cambridge - Charlton] - Free
Charlton needed to sort out their GK situation. Is Mannion the answer? He doesn't leap off the page, having been Cambridge’s #2 for the last three seasons. Another GK incoming, we think.
Josh Edwards (LB/LCB) - [Dunfermline - Charlton] - Undisclosed
An option at full-back or LCB, the in-demand Edwards was in the Scottish Championship Team of the Season.
Luke Berry (CM) - [Luton - Charlton] - Free
A goalscoring midfielder who notched for Luton in League Two, League One, the Championship and the Premier League, Berry reunites with former Hatters boss Nathan Jones, saying he owes the Welshman a lot for giving him belief.
Josh Flint (CB) - [Volendam - Crawley] - Free
Flint has spent the last two seasons starting regularly in the Netherlands. With a sought-after, left-footed CB profile, he’ll plug the void left by Laurence Maguire.
Antony Papadopoulos (CM) - [Welling - Crawley] - Free
Crawley have some incredible data nerd(s) behind the scene who helped to build a promotion-winning side with plenty of non-league signings. So, we assume Papadopoulos will be good… but we don’t know for sure.
Scott Malone (LB) - [Gillingham - Crawley] - Undisclosed
Crawley’s atypical recruitment is put on pause to add an EFL stalwart with more than 500 appearances. That experience will be valuable: Malone, 33 and a more ‘regulation’ left-sider than starting LWB Jeremy Kelly, is five years older than virtually every other Crawley squad member.
Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (FW) - [Swindon - Crawley] - Free
Found a home at Swindon over the last two seasons but still came across as a ‘moments player’ more suited to cameos than starts. Crawley will need more from him.
Charlie Barker (CB) - [Wealdstone - Crawley] - Undisclosed
Son of Derby assistant Richie Barker, Charlie is a progressive, right-footed ball-playing defender who played either in the middle of a three-man defence or on the left of a back four at Wealdstone. On the eye, he looks undersized for a CB.
Josh Magennis (ST) - [Wigan - Exeter] - Free
Gary Caldwell brings in a experienced lieutenant. Magennis will take some of the burden away from youngsters Sonny Cox and Millenic Alli.
Jack McMillan (RWB) - [Partick Thistle - Exeter] - Free
Defence-minded wing-back who can rotate into midfield. Has played for Caldwell previously. Will compete with Ilmari Niskanen at RWB.
Lasse Sorensen (RWB/CM) - [Lincoln - Huddersfield] - Undisclosed
Initially a central midfielder, Sorensen performed well as a right-sided wing-back for the last 18 months. Mike Duff says he wants his players to be ‘fit, strong and organised’; Sorensen is speedy, energetic and comfortable on the ball.
Charlie Kelman (ST) - [QPR - Leyton Orient] - Loan
Energetic striker who was part of the O’s squad which won promotion in 2022/23. Goal return doesn’t leap off the page across the last few years, but Wellens clearly believes in Kelman and appreciates his all-round game.
Sonny Perkins (ST) - [Leeds - Leyton Orient] - Loan
A League One loan with Oxford didn’t work out and Perkins was sent back to Elland Road early. The Londoner is back in more familiar territory now but needs to show something of substance.
Conor McGrandles (CM) - [Charlton - Lincoln] - Undisclosed
Imps fans know all about McGrandles as he returns to the scene of the best years of his career. He’s a tidy if unspectacular midfielder who gets a lot done without fuss.
Tom Bayliss (CM) - [Shrewsbury - Lincoln] - Free
A silky midfielder who lost confidence at Preston and has had an up-and-down two seasons with Shrewsbury. With his skillset, the assumption remains that if he can find a good fit and the right manager, the talent will ooze out once more. Still only 25.
JJ McKiernan (CM) - [Morecambe - Lincoln] - Free
Attacking midfielder that scored 7 goals in an impressive start to 23/24 at Morecambe, before injury kept him out for three months. Great ability to attack the box and score from a #10 position, can finish with both feet and head.
Jamie Pardington (GK) - [Cheltenham - Lincoln] - Free
Former Wolves youth, likely joining to be 2nd or 3rd choice.
Keanu Baccus (CM) - [St Mirren - Mansfield] - Free
The 26-year-old Aussie international (19 caps) was strongly linked to Bolton last summer amid two good seasons at St Mirren. This feels like a coup, and it’s always great to have a Keanu within our remit.
Frazer Blake-Tracy (CB/LB) - [Swindon - Mansfield] - Free
FBT impressed with consistent performances for a chaotic Swindon side. A left-sided defender, he’s solid and comfortable on the ball – a good profile to add to any squad.
Lee Gregory (ST) - [Sheffield Wednesday - Mansfield] - Free
A wily poacher with good penalty-box movement but lacking physical attributes at 35. Completely unfancied by Danny Rohl due to lack of speed and mobility. In his League One career: 61 goals at 0.50 per 90.
Deji Oshilaja (CB/CM) - [Burton - Mansfield] - Free
Having moved from CB to CM to #10 at Burton, it’s hard to know where Oshilaja will play for Mansfield, but Nigel Clough loves versatility. Stronger defensively than on the ball.
Abraham Odoh (W) - [Harrogate - Peterborough] - Undisclosed
Tricky winger who can carry the ball, create for team-mates and score himself. To fill the shoes of Ephron Mason-Clark will not be easy. Odoh will need to show further development, and lands in a good spot for that.
George Nevett (CB) - [Rochdale - Peterborough] - Undisclosed
The next Ronnie Edwards. But left-footed.
Chris Conn-Clarke (AM) - [Altrincham - Peterborough] - Undisclosed
The National League’s most dynamic and dangerous attacking midfielder joins Posh. A pocket rocket.
Joe Rafferty (RB) - [Portsmouth - Rotherham] - Free
Promotion-winning full-back with Pompey who perhaps lacks the athleticism to cope with Championship football, but absolutely has the technical quality, experience and consistency to thrive in League One. Able to play RCB, too.
Joe Powell (CM) - [Burton - Rotherham] - Free
A good long passer who can also chip in with spectacular goals, Powell doesn't excel in the defensive side of the game but will provide quality passes into the Rotherham target men.
Shaun McWilliams (CM) - [Northampton - Rotherham] - Free
Steve Evans described him as having “the engine of a Ferrari” and, bizarrely, “the heart of Big Ben”. That would work better if he was the sort of midfielder who sets the tempo, but instead he’s more of a ball-winner.
Sean Raggett (CB) - [Portsmouth - Rotherham] - Free
Rotherham have a new Richard Wood. Evans has a new Carl Piergianni. Raggett can play in a tactical system that emphasises his strengths and obscures his weaknesses.
Reece James (LB/LWB) - [Sheffield Wednesday - Rotherham] - Free
Another perfect Evans full-back: dependable, experienced and with excellent technical ability. Also able to play LCB.
Liam Kelly (CM) - [Coventry - Rotherham] - Free
Kelly has only started 22 games in the last three seasons for Coventry but is, according to Mark Robins, an impeccable professional on and off the field. Not a bad person to have around, even if he may not play many minutes.
Zak Jules (CB) - [Exeter - Rotherham] - Free
Strong, versatile left-sided defender who is comfortable on the ball.
Jonson Clarke-Harris (ST) - [Peterborough - Rotherham] - Free
League One Golden Boot winner in 2020/21. Scorer of 26 goals in 2022/23. Finally decoupled from Peterborough after an awkward 12 months, and reunited with a manager who has a fantastic record with strikers and will indulge him as long as he is putting the ball in the net.
Alex MacDonald (W) - [Stevenage - Rotherham] - Free
Veteran. Loyal to Steve Evans. Brought in to be the changing room standard-setter.
Cameron Dawson (GK) - [Sheffield Wednesday - Rotherham] - Free
It’s difficult to replace a fan favourite, especially a goalkeeper, but a Johansson-less Rotherham now have a pair of fine League One stoppers in Dawson and Dillon Phillips.
Toby Savin (GK) - [Accrington - Shrewsbury] - Free
An early inductee into our 21 Under 21, he’s had a tough time since. Needed a fresh start away from Accrington to see if he can rediscover the potential shown when he broke through to first-team football.
Toto Nsiala (CB) - [Burton - Shrewsbury] - Free
This is getting close to Neil Warnock and Paddy Kenny levels: it’s the fourth time Paul Hurst has signed Nsiala. His best season was playing under Hurst, for Shrewsbury, finishing third in League One in 2017/18. Give Shaun Whalley and Jon Nolan a bell, will you, Doigy?
Harrison Biggins (CM) - [Doncaster - Shrewsbury] - Free
With a name like a WW2 pilot, Biggins is an attack-minded central midfielder, who has scored exactly five league goals in each of his last three seasons. Hurst will have him earmarked for the Jon Nolan/Gavan Holohan role.
George Lloyd (ST) - [Cheltenham - Shrewsbury] - Free
A hard-working striker with a slick finish in his locker, Lloyd offered a poor goal return last season but showed enough to be offered a new contract by Cheltenham. Instead, he remains in League One. Does he have the all-round game to play up top on his own, or is he better with a strike partner? We will find out.
Louis Appéré (ST) - [Northampton - Stevenage] - Free
The Scottish-Frenchman is a hard-working striker who’s all hustle and bustle. Meagre goalscoring return to date, but like Giroud in the French National Team, or… Lyndon Dykes for the Tartan Army… he does a lot of unselfish, unheralded work.
Lewis Freestone (CB) - [Cheltenham - Stevenage] - Undisclosed
A 24-year-old left-footed CB in an old-school mold: head it and kick it, meat and potatoes. Good 2023/24 campaign for Cheltenham.
Dan Kemp (AM/W) - [MK Dons - Stevenage] - Free
With 38 goal contributions across 52 League Two games since January 2023, this delightful Dan has earned a move to League One, even if MK Dons only seemed to consider him a fringe player. His success may depend on Alex Revell’s tactical style.
Corey Addai (GK) - [Crawley - Stockport] - Undisclosed
Cult icon of Crawley’s play-off campaign, coming to wider prominence thanks to a heat map that resembled that of a right-back rather than a goalkeeper. Don’t let that distract from the fact that he was probably the best keeper in League Two last season, and the stats back it up.
Jayden Fevrier (WB/W) - [Colchester - Stockport] - Undisclosed
Quick, with agility and a low centre of gravity, he completed the most dribbles in League Two last term. Played minutes at LWB and RWB but undoubtedly an attacking player.
Jay Mingi (CM) - [Colchester - Stockport] - Undisclosed
Aggressive, athletic midfielder who didn’t nail down a starting spot at Portsmouth nor Colchester. Stockport are betting on development potential.
Callum Connolly (CB/WB/CM) - [Blackpool - Stockport] - Free
So versatile that I genuinely don’t know what his best position is. Stockport’s focus on multi-positional players is fascinating. Connolly is only 26 but boasts almost 250 league appearances in the Championship and League One.
Jack Diamond (W) - [Sunderland - Stockport] - Free
Direct wide player with dribbling ability and goal threat.
Lewis Bate (CM) - [Leeds - Stockport] - Free
A pint-sized midfield metronome with youth pedigree at Chelsea and Leeds. Dave Challinor’s quotes reflect the excitement being felt at Stockport:
“For some time now, we’ve felt that our biggest evolution as a team would come from a ball-playing midfielder that will not only receive the ball in tight areas but manipulate space and play forward, as well as driving forward when the opportunity presents. Lewis is fantastic at all of these things and will be of huge importance to our development.”
Michael Olakigbe (RW) - [Brentford - Wigan] - Loan
A dynamic, dribbly winger, the then-teenaged Olakigbe made eight Premier League appearances from the Brentford bench last season. Sent off on second appearance on loan at Peterborough and barely seen after that.
Dion Rankine (RWB/RW) - [Chelsea - Wigan] - Free
Speedy right-sided player who played 2,000 minutes for Exeter last season. Improvement needed on final ball and goal threat, but plenty to like as well.
Calvin Ramsay (RB/RWB) - [Liverpool - Wigan] - Loan
Injury-blighted year on loan at Bolton means Ramsay has barely played for two seasons since leaving Aberdeen for Liverpool. Wigan now well-stocked on the right side.
Arthur Okonkwo (GK) - [Arsenal - Wrexham] - Free
Wow. Loan made permanent. This is a huge signing: 22 years old and with a very high ceiling, Okonkwo was Wrexham’s most important addition last season and led League Two for save percentage. Before that, he’d been playing regularly on loan at Sturm Graz, who have just won the Austrian Bundesliga.
Alex Hartridge (CB) - [Exeter - Wycombe] - Free
An aesthetically-pleasing left-footed CB that’s generally praised for technical quality but questioned for defensive quality - a sure sign that the Wild Thing Era is being phased out at Wycombe! With 130 L1/2 apps aged 25, Exeter take credit for producing another EFL professional, but Wycombe may get his best years.
Nathan Bishop (GK) - [Sunderland - Wycombe] - Loan
Followed up a season-long loan at Mansfield in 2022/23 by backing up Anthony Patterson at the Stadium of Light last season. Should get back to playing much-needed minutes for his development while he’s at Wycombe.
League Two
Tyler Walton (W) - [Southport - Accrington] - Free
Walton is a speedy forward player and the fifth player signed by Accrington from Southport in the last 10 years - Dion Charles is the name to emulate.
Michael Kelly (GK) - [MK Dons - Accrington] - Free
The Irish keeper finished the season in goal for MK Dons, but made some high profile mistakes. Comfortable being part of build up.
Jimmy Knowles (ST) - [Boston - Accrington] - Undisclosed
A poacher type, this former Mansfield youth player was released 12 months ago, scored 18 for Boston in the NLN and is back in the EFL. Accrington signing strikers from non-league is EFL heritage.
Kelsey Mooney (ST) - [Boston - Accrington] - Free
The second half of Boston's striker partnership, both bought by Accrington. Mooney scored 16 goals and has target man genes as son of Tommy Mooney.
Myles Hippolyte (WB/CM/W) - [Stockport - Wimbledon] - Free
Silky left-footed player that can play as a #8, on the wing or at wing back. Missed two chunks of last season with knee sprains.
John-Joe O'Toole (CB/CM) - [Mansfield - Wimbledon]- Free
Another loanee-turned-permanent, O'Toole won the hearts of Dons fans with his displays at the back. Brings huge experience to the dressing room, to replace that of Alex Pearce and Harry Pell.
Callum Maycock (CM) - [Solihull Moors - Wimbledon] - Free
Wimbledon transfer guru Craig Cope plucks Maycock from his former club Solihull, where he's been a key player for four years. A tall central midfielder that's comfortable on the ball.
Wyll Stanway (GK) - [Chester - Barrow] - Undisclosed
Brother of Lioness Georgia, this Barrow boy returns home... he only became a GK in 2021 but is apparently very good!
Katia Kouyate (W/ST) - [Everton - Barrow] - Free
Speedy attacker who can play left or centrally, Kouyate played two years of PL2 football with Everton without standout numbers. Subject of a great viral tweet.
Sam Barnes (CB) - [Blackburn - Barrow] - Free
Barnes leaves Rovers age 23 with only one EFL Cup appearance to speak of — but mainly down to desperately bad luck with injury. Should be good... if fit.
Connor Mahoney (W) - [Huddersfield - Barrow] - Free
A smooth dribbler with a nice left footed delivery, he rejoins Stephen Clemence, his manager last season at Gills, where he played more minutes last season than in any previous campaign. Has magic in his boots that needs to be seen more consistently.
Andrew Dallas (ST) - [Barnsley - Barrow] - Loan
Excellent National League goalscorer (50 goals at 0.48 p90) who had a tough 23/24 season, scoring on debut for Barnsley before being shipped out to Kilmarnock and Oldham. Total goals on loan? 0. Hard-working, speedy striker.
Neil Byrne (CB) - [Stockport - Bradford] - Free
Veteran, leader-type CB comfortable defending his box and playing long passes towards an Andy Cook type target man rather than short build up. Dependable.
Callum Johnson (RB) - [Mansfield - Bradford] - Free
Solid right back with plenty of L1/L2 experience, but missed chunks of last season through injury.
Aden Baldwin (CB) - [Notts County - Bradford] - Free
Ball-playing CB that can drive into midfield and comfortable playing a short passing game. Baldwin and Byrne are solid additions to Bradford's CB group.
Antoni Sarcevic (CM) - [Stockport - Bradford] - Free
"Seven Promotions Sarce", as he demands to be know (presumably). Quality midfielder when fit, Stockport won 18 of the 28 games he started.
Jude Smith (GK) - [Newcastle - Carlisle] - Free
Signed by Newcastle after a season as East Fife's #1 aged 18. Lands at Carlisle after release, likely to be second or third choice.
Ethan Robson (CM) - [MK Dons - Carlisle] - Free
Tidy, left-footed midfielder that's never quite nailed down or kept a starting spot with Blackpool or MK Dons. Not super athletic but a nice all-rounder.
Cameron Harper (LB) - [Inverness - Carlisle] - Undisclosed
Attacking left back with over 150 apps for ICT aged 22. Seemed to create every one of ICT's chances in their two-legged play-off defeat, and played every minute of the season.
Aaron Hayden (CB) - [Wrexham - Carlisle] - Free
Strong, aerially-dominant CB returns to the club for whom he thrived before sale to Wrexham in 2021.
Terell Thomas (CB) - [Charlton - Carlisle] - Free
Good addition for Carlisle - an experienced, left-footed centre back that should be more than comfortable at L2 level.
Scot Bennett (CB/DM) - [Newport - Cheltenham] - Free
Can play CB or DM, Bennett is old school in style - wins headers, wins tackles. Not a ball-player.
Ryan Haynes (LB/LWB) - [Northampton - Cheltenham] - Free
Left sided defender, has always been a strong performer at League Two level.
Harry Pell (CM) - [Wimbledon - Cheltenham] - Free
Back with the club with whom he enjoyed an excellent spell 2015-18, Pell is all arms, legs, elbows and yellow cards. Struggled to impact games off the bench for Wimbledon last season.
Arkell Jude-Boyd (RB) - [QPR - Cheltenham] - Free
Both-footed, attacking full back who is equally adept on right or left flank. 6 goals in 17 NLS starts last season.
Luke Young (CM) - [Wrexham - Cheltenham] - Free
A crucial part of Wrexham's recent history, the club's rise may have left him behind, but he's an experienced, dependable central midfielder and leader.
Lewis Gordon (LB/LWB) - [Bristol Rovers - Chesterfield] - Free
Former Watford and Brentford B left back spent two years at Bristol Rovers, performing solidly if unspectacularly.
Paddy Madden (ST) - [Stockport - Chesterfield] - Free
The legs have mostly gone, but the football IQ is higher than ever and it allows Madden to keep impacting League Two games in a different way to his younger self. 11 of his 17 goals last season came in four matches - three hat-tricks and a brace.
Tim Akinola (CM) - [Al Bidda - Chesterfield] - Free
A popular former loanee from 22/23, the former Arsenal academy midfielder is one of a trio of 23 year-olds added to an otherwise ageing squad.
Kane Drummond (FWD) - [Macclesfield - Chesterfield] - Free
Pacy attacker that scored plenty of goals for Macclesfield last season, Drummond jumps up three levels from Step 3 to League Two to add something a bit different to Chesterfield's attacking options.
Chey Dunkley (CB) - [Shrewsbury - Chesterfield] - Free
Great signing for Chesterfield. Experienced, aerially-dominant defender with one of the great full names in the EFL: Cheyenne Armani Keanu Roma Dunkley.
Matt Macey (GK) - [Portsmouth - Colchester] - Free
Has an FA Cup winners' medal having made the bench for Arsenal in 2020. L1 loan spells with Argyle and Portsmouth suggest a safe pair of hands and solid pick-up for ColU.
John Kymani-Gordon (LW) - [Crystal Palace - Colchester] - Free
This feels like a high-upside signing that could look great in 12-24 months - Gordon is quick, a good dribbler and has shown some nice finishing in snatches. But it's not a sure thing, he needs to show he can do all that consistently. Would be most effective as a left-sided wide forward in my opinion.
Harry Anderson (W) - [Stevenage - Colchester] - Free
Anderson's already played over 10,000 minutes for Danny Cowley, who knows he'll get the industry he wants as well as versatility in wide positions.
Ben Goodliffe (CB) - [Sutton - Colchester] - Undisclosed
Strong centre-back that excelled for Sutton in 21/22 in first EFL season. Brings aerial dominance in both boxes - exactly what the Cowleys want from their CBs. Set piece threat.
Kane Hemmings (ST) - [Stevenage - Crewe] Free
A quiet season as a role player for Stevenage, but Hemmings has hit double figures for goals in 7 of 11 seasons and should do again if Crewe create chances. Not just a pure poacher, Hemmings is a smart player who can link with team-mates. Just lacking speed and mobility.
Jack Lankester (FW) - [Cambridge - Crewe] - Undisclosed
A left-footed attacker that can play RW or #10, Lankester is more of a shooter than a creator or dribbler - but with over 5xG generated last season, his only goal came on opening day. In a good attacking unit and with more confidence I think Lankester could have an impact in L2.
Jamie Knight-Lebel (CB) [Bristol City - Crewe] - Loan
Got himself onto the fringes of Bristol City's first team squad last season and was on stand-by for Canada's Copa America squad too. Expected to breakthrough in BS3 before long, this loan is intended to 'toughen him up'.
Tom Nixon (RB) - [Hull - Doncaster] - Undisclosed
Showed enough on as a versatile back-up full back - covering both sides - for Grant McCann to bring him back permanently.
Ted Sharman-Lowe (GK) - [Chelsea - Doncaster] - Loan
Signed by Chelsea from Burton aged 17. No EFL experience at this stage, and big shoes to fill after Thimothée Lo-Tutala's exceptional loan spell.
Jordan Gibson (AM) - [Carlisle - Doncaster] - Free
Talented, confident attacking player looking for a new environment after three seasons with Carlisle. An individualistic player capable of match-winning displays, but without consistent G+A output.
Joe Sbarra (AM) - [Solihull Moors - Doncaster] - Free
Has seemed nailed on for an EFL move for a few seasons now. Goalscoring attacking midfielder, with 27 goals across 21/22 and 22/23 seasons, before a heart issue led to half a season out. Worked his way back and finished season strong.
Harry Clifton (CM/W) - [Grimsby - Doncaster] - Free
Mr Versatile, with a great engine. Clifton can play a number of midfield or wide roles and could benefit from a fresh environment after 15+ years at Grimsby, whose fans are a touch miffed that he’s joined a division (and relatively local) rival.
Ephraim Yeboah (W) - [Bristol City - Doncaster] - Loan
A wide forward, Yeboah only turns 18 this summer and is following the Antoine Semenyo path - Bath City loan followed by League Two loan. Italian-born, Yeboah is eligible for Ghana like Semenyo.
Billy Sharp (ST) - [Hull - Doncaster] - Free
A heart warming move, full of sentiment and feel good vibes. But how much does he have left in the tank? It didn't look like much at Hull. Maybe a lower grade will get anything remaining out of him.
Matty Virtue (CM) - [Blackpool - Fleetwood] - Free
Hard-working central midfielder that hasn't seen much football for two seasons in Blackpool. Needs to drop to League Two to prove himself, but should be comfortable at that level.
Elliot Bonds (CM) - [Cheltenham Town - Fleetwood] - Undisclosed
Steady, if not spectacular. Tenacious, good pro. Bonds can do a bit of it all, pass, tackle, shield, buzz around. Surprised there wasn't a spot for him to stay in League One. Cracking addition for Fleetwood.
Jack Nolan (W) - [Accrington - Gillingham] - Undisclosed
It was an incredible breakout season for Nolan, with 17 goals and 9 assists for Accy. An excellent left foot is the headline act - his crossing from open play and set pieces is a huge weapon, but he is a goal threat as well. Former England U17 whose early senior career was scuppered by injury, Nolan could put up big numbers again in this Gills team.
Elliott Nevitt (ST) - [Crewe - Gillingham] - Free
From 0 goals in 1,400 minutes in 22/23 to 16 goals in 2,800 minutes in 23/24, Nevitt found his confidence in front of goal. Hard-working, aggressive striker who always gives CBs a tough afternoon.
Armani Little (CM) - [Wimbledon - Gillingham] - Free
Solid performer for Wimbledon. Not a dominant ball-winner but an intelligent player with quality on the ball. Can offer goals in an advanced midfield role - scored 15 in a season for Torquay.
Aaron Rowe (W) - [Huddersfield - Gillingham] - Free
Two Premier League appearances aged 18 for Huddersfield preceded four years of struggling to find consistent game time. Rowe finally found it at Crewe, where he showed flashes of electric promise, and worked hard, but is yet to achieve consistency or put up eye-catching numbers. Has the quality to do so if settled.
Tyrell Warren (RB) - [Barrow - Grimsby] - Free
Tough-tackling right-back with a decent motor. Injury hit 23/24 season may have knocked confidence after solid 22/23 campaign.
Jordan Wright (GK) - [Lincoln - Grimsby] - Undisclosed
25 y/o GK has been a career #2 up to this point but performed well in 20 league games over the last three seasons for Lincoln. Grimsby's GK situation was a huge issue last season. Wright will compete with Jake Eastwood for the gloves.
Cameron McJannet (CB) - [Derry - Grimsby] - Undisclosed
Strong, mobile left sided centre back. Can also fill in at left back. Came through at Stoke. Popular player at Derry after 4 years at the club.
Matty Carson (LB) - [Reading - Grimsby] - Free
Tenacious young left back with good delivery. Started 7 games for Reading at the start of 23/24 and performed well.
Stephen Duke-McKenna (AM) - [QPR - Harrogate] - free
An eye-catching loan with Sutton, where Duke McKenna showed industry and skill, suggests he'll be a good replacement for Abraham Odoh.
Luke Offord (CB) - [Crewe - MK Dons] - Free
MK Dons are undergoing a defensive refresh. They've brought in a ball-playing defender who took a leap last season with Crewe before injury. A leader and a potentially excellent signing.
Laurence Maguire (CB) - [Chesterfield - MK Dons] - Free
Big Loz Maguire looks a lot like his brother, and has some of the same traits. A left footer who developed his possession game with Crawley, he'll add some necessary beef to MK Dons.
Sam Sherring (CB) - [Northampton - MK Dons] Free
Tidy ball-player that's also a brave defender. Doesn't look the most physically dominant in size but makes up for it in determination. 24 year-old with 150 senior apps already.
Joe Pritchard (CM) - [Accrington Stanley - MK Dons] - Free
Due to injury, Pritchard has played less than one season's worth of minutes in the last three years, but this is a quality technical player that can play in midfield or at wing-back, that creates and scores goals. Excellent under the radar pick-up for MK, if he can stay fit.
Connor Lemonheigh-Evans (AM/W) - [Stockport - MK Dons] - Free
Quality operator who relies on intelligence and technical ability rather than speed and skill, The Lemon played six different positions across spells with Wimbledon and Stockport last season, and showed impressive consistency.
Tommy Leigh (AM) - [Accrington - MK Dons] - Undisclosed
Can play CM, #10 or up front, likely to play as a second striker for MK Dons. Dogged and physical, Leigh should add a nice dimension to MK's attack, don't be surprised if his goal tally jumps up.
Matt Baker (CB) - [Stoke - Newport] - Compensation
The Wales u21 defender has already played 50+ games for Newport across two loan spells, and now lands permanently. One of many to express excitement at what new owner Huw Jenkins is cooking up...
Ciaran Brennan (CB) - [Sheffield Wednesday - Newport] - Free
Former Sheff Wed defender that was rated highly enough to pick up multiple professional deals and extensions, but now leaves aged 24 with very few senior starts and a sequence of short, or injury-shorted, loan spells. A technical CB rather than a brute, perhaps foreshadowing a potential shift in style in this New Newport era.
Anthony Glennon (LB) - [Grimsby - Newport] - Free
Exceptional crossing delivery provides any team with a serious attacking weapon. However Glennon's defensive chops have been questioned, as has his ability to stay fit.
Oliver Greaves (AM) - [Mickleover - Newport] - Free
An injury as a teenager saw Greaves step away from professional football and move into non-league. Now 24, he takes a leap back to the EFL after a 1 in 2 scoring ratio from attacking midfield at Step 3 last season.
Kai Whitmore (CM) - [Haverfordwest - Newport] - Free
Newport have previous when it comes to shopping in the Welsh Premier League. The tape shows Whitmore to be a forward running, powerful, dribbly midfielder who gets fans off their seat. If his ability translates to League Two then this might just be one we look back on and applaud.
Joe Thomas (RB) [Swansea - Newport] - Free
Handed a two year contract after spending time with Swansea's development side. Described as quick, tenacious, gets up and down and can chip in with a goal.
Jacob Carney (GK) - [Castellón - Newport] - Free
A young, former Manchester United and Sunderland arrives looking to find a home as a senior player, and will challenge Nick Townsend for the gloves.
Rod McDonald (CB) - [Harrogate - Notts County] - Undisclosed
For the softest team in League Two last season, signing a centre-back nicknamed "Concrete Rod" feels smart. A leader and a strong defender, don't expect too much fancy stuff on the ball but left-footedness is always a boost for balance.
Matty Platt (CB) - [Bradford - Notts County] - Free
Part of Notts County's new look back line, Platt is a good solid defender. Just what's needed.
Jacob Bedeau (CB) - [Morecambe - Notts County] - Free
Bedeau is another good defender at this level. Questions over his ball playing ability will need to be answered if Notts are to build up in a similar style to last season.
Curtis Edwards (CM) - [Woking - Notts County] - Free
Great story, this one. 30 y/o Englishman making his first step into the Football League. Previously played for Ostersunds, Djurgarden and Stabaek. Has worked with the coaching team before and the club has strong links to Scandanvia. They know what they're getting.
Alex Bass (GK) - [Sunderland - Notts County] - Undisclosed
Notts County needed a keeper. Bass is a pretty good one for the level.
Nick Tsaroulla (LB) - [Crawley - Notts County] - Free
Left wing-back that does most of his best work in the final third. Very upright, elegant dribbler and effective with it. Notts' system a good fit for him, just remains to be seen if he's playing second fiddle to Jodi Jones or if Stuart Maynard has other plans.
Lorent Tolaj (ST) - [Aldershot - Port Vale] - Undisclosed
I was excited to see where Tolaj would end up! A 22 year-old Swiss striker brought over to the UK by Brighton, Tolaj struggled on loan and dropped to the National League upon release. He found his feet and proved his quality, scoring 20+ in all competitions for Aldershot while offering plenty in terms of physicality and work rate.
Jayden Stockley (ST) - [Fleetwood - Port Vale] - Undisclosed
Experienced target man that's imperious in the air, but offers very little outside of aerial threat and target. Likely needs a strike partner with legs (Tolaj? Dipepa?) AND a cross-heavy system to get the best out of him.
Ronan Curtis (W) - [AFC Wimbledon - Port Vale] - Free
A solid spell at Wimbledon proved Curtis' fitness after terrible injury issues, and included a few key goals. Missing the dynamism he once had but still provides final third quality.
Ryan Croasdale (DM) - [Stockport - Port Vale] - Free
A leader as Stockport have moved up the pyramid, Croasdale is a good holding midfielder for this level but lacked the technical ability to move up to League One in Stockport's style.
Sam Hart (LB) - [Sutton - Port Vale] - Free
Made his professional debut on loan at Vale from Liverpool in 2016. Hart is a defensive left-back who is fine on the ball but lacks the physicality to bomb up and down.
Stephan Negru [Oxford - Salford] - Loan
21 year-old CB who made 11 starts for Oxford last season and never let them down. Impressive strength and aerial ability for his age.
Dan Chesters (RWB/RW) - [West Ham - Salford] - Free
A midfielder in the West Ham academy, Chesters was on loan at Salford last season and mainly played right back. They liked what they saw.
Cole Stockton (ST) - [Burton - Salford] - Free
This feels very Salford. Stockton's insane 23 goal haul in League One for Morecambe in 2021-22 feels distant, now. Always a handful, he’s a high volume shooter capable of the spectacular. Can he find the motivation and the fit? It wouldn't be surprising if he scores a lot of goals. It wouldn't be surprising if the move fizzles out a bit.
Robbie Cleary (FW) - [Unattached - Salford] - Free
So intrigued by how this Canadian 21-year-old, who has never played professionally before and has very little online footprint, has signed for Salford.
Will Wright (CB) - [Crawley - Swindon] - Free
Big defender whose excellent technique seems at odds with his frame at first. As a CB in a back three, RB in a back four or even as a DM, Wright is a great player to have in your squad and can take your set pieces, too. Top signing.
Harry Smith (ST) [Sutton - Swindon] - Free
6'5 target man that's incredible difficult to beat in the air. Scores more with his head than his feet. Could improve concentration and discipline, can get distracted with battles vs CBs and opposition fans. Get ready to see Harry Smith scoring headers from Will Wright deep crosses.
Tunmise Sobowale (RB/RWB) - [Shrewsbury - Swindon] - Free
Those who know the player feel there could be something there, but a move from Waterford (Irish second tier) to League One Shrewsbury seemed too much. Swindon could be a more appropriate level for the player to get comfortable — a right sider happier going forward than defensively.
Rosaire Longelo (LB/LWB) - [Accrington - Swindon] - Free
One of my guilty pleasures - a player I am sure is better than League Two level. Having played LWB for Accrington for two seasons, I think Longelo could be a dangerous wide forward at the level. He's got good size, smooth on the ball. I can't believe Swindon have signed him, to be honest. A brilliant signing.
Ollie Clarke (CM) - [Mansfield - Swindon] - Undisclosed
A popular, dependable midfielder for Bristol Rovers and Mansfield for the best part of a decade, Clarke is a battling, combative midfielder good for a few screamers per season. A different mould to recent Swindon signings.
Ryan Delaney (CB) - [Newport - Swindon] - Free
No nonsense defender that should make Swindon much stronger at defending their box.
Sam Finley (CM) - [Bristol Rovers - Tranmere] - Free
Big need for Tranmere, and they've reeled in a big fish. Small in stature but big in personality on and off the pitch, Finley is a quality midfielder for the level and a local.
Josh Davison (ST) - [Wimbledon - Tranmere] - Undisclosed
Hard-working striker that throws himself into every challenge and duel. Often lacking composure and quality when on the ball, but still effective as an outlet and with a run of starts and increased confidence, the goal return could pick up.
Cameron Norman (RB) - [MK Dons - Tranmere] - Free
Steady as they come in League Two. Didn't fit into the new way of doing things at MK but still represents a nice pick up for Tranmere. Known as a RB, capable at CB if required.
Charlie Lakin (CM) - [Burton - Walsall] - Free
The Saddlers need to replace the goal contributions of Isaac Hutchinson. Lakin seems to fit the bill. Eight goals and fives assists in a relegated Sutton side is enough to feel positive about this transfer.
Connor Barrett (RWB) - [Fylde - Walsall] - Undisclosed
Described by National League guru Ryan Deeney as a very, very exciting talent - if utilised right. Good size, full of energy, quick, direct, played a lot of football in recent seasons. Perhaps a little naive at times, but if you get him running forward, he'll fly.
Josh Gordon (W/ST) - [Burton Albion - Walsall] - Free
Walsall know what they are getting from a player that's signing for the third time and is approaching 150 appearances for the club. A hot and cold finisher - hot at Barrow, cold at Walsall - that's appreciated by managers for his versatility and work rate.
Matty Stevens (ST) - [Forest Green - Wimbledon] - Free
23 goals in FGR's promotion campaign in 21/22. An ACL injury halting his progress. A return to fitness in 23/24, and 9 goals in 1600 minutes. Still only 26, if Stevens is fit and partnered with a target man (for Jamille Matt, read Omar Bugiel) then he should score goals for Dons.
If you’ve got this far, you must have enjoyed this beast of an EFL Transfer Bible! In order to have access to all of NTT20.COM’s transfer coverage this summer window, you will need a paid subscription.
It would be good if each one could have the date of the sale, or if we could sort by newest transfers - it makes a bit easier to see the latest ones - great content though, replaces the old trawl through the BBC transfer list.
