They’re still covered in detail, don’t worry. But first…
Championship
Andri Gudjohnsen (ST) - [Gent - Blackburn] - Undisclosed (reported £2m)
If Andri is half as successful for Blackburn as his father, Eidur, was for neighbours Bolton back in the day, then Rovers fans won’t mind turning a blind eye to his loose connection to their Lancashire rivals. The 23-year-old London-born Icelander joins from Belgian club Gent, who are taking a small loss on the player they signed just 12 months ago.
Gudjohnsen spent his youth in the academies of Barcelona and Real Madrid, so he has been given plenty of opportunity to back up his pedigree. On paper, he looks a good fit for Championship football, as a prototype #9 who can use both feet, excels in the air and makes predatory penalty-box runs.
Neto Borges (LB) - [Middlesbrough - Bristol City] - Loan
The Brazilian arrived at Boro this time last year and was solid if unspectacular for most of the season. But it didn’t bode well for Borges that, when Rob Edwards moved to a 3-4-2-1, Sammy Silvera (and then Matt Targett) were preferred at LWB.
With their own starting LWB out injured, Bristol City have been playing Yu Hirakawa (a winger) or Ross McCrorie (a right-footed wing-back) in that position, so Borges, 28, should have a better chance of minutes there. He can also fill in as an LCB, and did so last season. He’s unlikely to be a game changer for Bristol City but does add some useful depth to the squad.
Ben Brereton Díaz (LW/RW/ST) - [Southampton - Derby] - Loan
Brereton Díaz didn’t look quite the same player, of this level nor his Premier League stint at Sheffield United, during his loan spell with the Blades in the second half of 2024/25. His output was still fine – 0.63 goals or assists per 90 – but the Chilean international looked sloppy and laboured at times.
Even so, Derby are getting a player with a proven track record of goals at this level; a player who can cover multiple positions; and a player who can really hurt teams when on his game. His addition should be well received by Derby supporters, as their squad was sorely lacking in attacking wide men.
Marcelino Núñez (CM) - [Norwich - Ipswich] - Undisclosed (reported £7.5m + £2.5m add-ons)
