Gueye, Kanga, Ohashi — the 17 latest EFL signings
NTT20's Summer Transfer Bulletin brings you every signing in the EFL, in detail, in your inbox, every Monday and Thursday.
The Summer Transfer Bulletin is brought to you by Ali Maxwell, George Elek, Huw Davies, Sam Parry, Craig Bradley and Matt Watts. The introduction is by Sam Parry.
Have you spotted a change?
NTT20 — the pod, the website and everywhere — has undergone a bit of a re-brand as we head into the new campaign. In fact, Ali and George set out the whys and wherefores of the NTT20 Universe in a season launch pod yesterday afternoon.
But that isn’t the change I’m talking about. No, I’m referring to a discernible easing off. A slowing down. EFL signings flowing as a trickle, not a flood — just 17 signings since Monday lunchtime. That situation seems somewhat counterintuitive as we sail with the wind towards the new season because, no doubt, 72 managers are moving fast to form their strongest starting flotillas. So why isn’t the wheeling and dealing full steam ahead?
Partly because much business is already behind us. And partly because we’re now treading water in the post-frenzy-pre-business end of the window, where those who are not in the top twenty must wait for those within the top twenty to do their deals. The Championship waits for the Premier League, League One waits for the Championship and League Two waits for League One — that’s the loose pattern anyhow, especially for loan deals.
Still, day by day, there is the delicious drip, drip, dripping of new season aspiration lurking in every fan’s mind, getting in where water can’t. There may be only 17 signings so far this week, but one of them could be your difference-maker.
