Moses, Ladapo, Fleck – 16 Done Deals Delayed
You didn't think our transfer coverage stopped just because the window closed, do you? Our bonus Summer Transfer Bulletin rounds up the stragglers
The Summer Transfer Bulletin is brought to you by Ali Maxwell, George Elek, Huw Davies, Sam Parry, Craig Bradley and Matt Watts. The introduction is by Huw Davies.
We’ve always loved a stoppage-time winner…
When we introduced our unprecedented Done Deals Daily transfer bulletins in January, we found the need one week after Deadline Day to deliver an update called Done Deals Delayed. Transfers announced in the early hours of the next morning, players terminating their contract in order to process offers and move a few days later, investigations into whether a deal sheet was submitted in time… it happens.
So, this summer we always had another Done Deals Delayed in mind. However, we took our time with it (the clubs and players did, after all) because we had plenty of other content to give you and because, frankly, there wasn’t that much late business.
This week, with the late transfer count having finally reached double figures, we decided to pull the trigger. On Tuesday morning, we had write-ups being… well, written up on the 10 players who had joined EFL clubs over the preceding week and a half. Sorted.
Then another six transfers were announced in the space of a few hours, including some pretty big ones. Holy Moses, look who Luton have signed! Egad, is that Egan on the move? We suddenly had more Flecks to give.
For the last time until January, then – famous last words – enjoy our transfer bulletin, taking in everyone from a Premier League champion to an import from the Tanzanian equivalent.
Welcome to Done Deals Delayed.

John Egan (CB) - [Sheffield United - Burnley] - Free
In the early part of last season, John Egan suffered an Achilles injury so severe that it ruled him for the whole campaign, eventually putting a full stop on the 31-year-old’s long Sheffield United career. We don’t know how his recovery has gone. We do know that he trained first with the Blades and later with Burnley, and clearly he has shown enough to earn a contract.
If he can get back to somewhere near his best, the Irishman (and, in Ireland, the second-most famous John Egan in his family) is an eminently solid centre-back for the level. He’s an organiser, who wins headers, makes blocks and takes up smart positions to intercept. He has never been the quickest of central defenders, however, and direct, pacy runners or balls that go over his head might cause an issue.
Steven Alzate (CM) - [Brighton - Hull] - Free
