Saturdays in autumn are a picture of leaves turning orange and crunching underfoot. Gone is the smell of summer barbecue and the taste of cold lager, replaced by the crack-spit of bonfires and warm, dark ales straight from the cask.
Such Saturdays should end with the sun low in the evening sky, with fans trundling home and heading to the boiler to switch on the heating for the first time in months.
Well, only twenty-two sets of fans had a crack at that this weekend after the International Break ate into an entire Championship slate, most of League One and some of League Two.
