It is incalculably British to spend this introduction talking about the weather. I’ve done it before; I’ll do it again, including right now.

Rivers Don and Maun burst their banks and our bubble, taking Rotherham v Ipswich and Mansfield v Forest Green off the menu.

On Saturday, with longer nights closing in and the heavens opening, EFL fans up and down the country were left in a quandary: what to don? Cagoule or Mackintosh? Oilskin or anorak? Time for the big warm winter coat, or would that somehow bring on sweat on top of the wet?
