The Six Fix [8 Sep 2023]

George. Ali. One podcast, three leagues and six fixtures picked.

Ali Maxwell & George Elek

There are many certainties in life. We’ve all heard people repeat the old one about death and taxes. We don’t hear enough about how a supermarket bag of carrots is always too many, but it certainly is. Hopefully, by now, you’ve come to know that when the International Break arrives, we get creative — that’s a definitely, not a maybe. And so it is this week…

Creativity in the Championship, where there are no fixtures to pick, so we’re talking about two favourite Deadline Day Transfers: a centre-back and a left wing-back.

Creativity in League One, where there are only two fixtures to pick, so we’re picking them and giving them a fresh spin and a proper airing.

… and a bit less creativity in League Two, where there’s one obvious pick, but also a more unexpected selection too.

Scores on the doors

Going into last weekend, George was 9-4 up in our predictions. His guess of West Brom 1-1 Huddersfield was incorrect (1-2), Orient 0-0 Stevenage was incorrect (0-3) and Notts Co 3-1 Accrington… well, of course, that was bang on the money for a 3pt correct score. George is up to 12.

In desperate need of a fightback to avoid the most recently suggested loser’s forfeit of getting their eyebrows threaded, Ali went with this: Coventry 2-1 Watford (3-3), Tranmere 0-3 Wrexham (0-1) and Blackpool 2-1 Wigan (2-1!!!!). A mini clawing back!

It’s George 12-8 Ali, or is it Ali 8-12 George?
